  • Can I wear my handmade jewellery in the shower?
Wearing your jewellery in the shower is not harmful to the metal, as it's solid gold, but it can lead to chains being snagged, which can weaken over time. Shampoo and conditioner can also build up under stones causing them to look dull. You should never wear pearls in the shower. Your jewellery needs to be patted dry with a soft cloth after cleaning or coming into contact with water.
  • Can I sleep in my handmade jewellery?
I do not recommend sleeping in your jewellery. Wearing a necklace in bed can lead to snagging and can weaken the chain over time. Wearing earrings while sleeping can loosen the butterfly backs, this could mean losing an earring. Always store your jewellery away safely when not wearing.
  • How do I clean my handmade jewellery?
You can use washing up liquid to clean your gold jewellery. I have written a step by step guide to cleaning your jewellery https://www.rachelswan.com/post/a-guide-to-cleaning-your-gold-jewellery
  • Where should I store my handmade jewellery?
When you're not wearing your jewellery, you can reuse your jewellery boxes to safely store your pieces. Make sure they are wrapped separately with tissue or a soft cloth. You can read more about storing and travelling with your jewellery here.
  • When should I put my handmade jewellery on?
To have your jewels looking their best, you should always put your jewellery on last. Wait a few minutes after make-up, body creams, sun cream application, perfume etc. All these products and oils will cause a film on your jewellery and dull their sparkle and lustre.
  • Can I wear an emerald in a ring?
Extra care needs to be taken when wearing an emerald ring. It is a brittle stone by nature, so not recommended for everyday wear, but for special occasions it is perfect. Emeralds worn in necklaces and earrings are fine, as they don't get knocked as much as rings.
